Description: Grammar/Language Usage
Students will learn Parts of Speech and the Use of: Adjectives, Adverbs, Alphabetical Order, Antonyms, Commas—Dates, Addresses, Letters, Series, Common/Proper Nouns, Complete/Simple Subjects, Compound Sentence, Compound Words Contractions, Dialogue/Quotation, Homonyms, Noun Markers, Plural Nouns—Regular/Irregular, Prefixes & Suffixes, Pronouns/Possessive Pronouns, Subjects & Predicates, Synonyms, Their/There/They’re, Verbs—Present, Past, Future, Types of Sentences—Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative, Exclamatory.Writing
Students will write the following pieces: Retelling, Personal Narrative, Persuasive, Literary Essay, and Constructed Response. Emphasis will be on focus, organization, elaboration, language & voice, and conventions.

Reading
Students will read short stories of different genres, followed by activities for practicing reading skills: comprehension, vocabulary development, phonics & other word attack skills, and recording information in various ways. Students will read grade level text (fiction & non-fiction) and complete comprehension skill packets. Classic Book Titles are: Chocolate Fever, Esio Trot, Lawn Boy, Never Mind, Because of Winn Dixie, The Report Card, Cricket in Times Square, Trumpet of the Swan, Holes, Bridge to Terabithia, National Geographic for Kids, Informational Text on People, Places, Animals, Events (Books will be provided by the teacher.)
